BrideJames and I met for the very first time during our junior year of high school in August of 2013 when he was actually dating someone else. We didn’t talk much and in fact, he wound up leaving the school and graduating early and I had no idea. It wasn’t until spring of 2015, the last semester of my senior year of high school and his second semester of his freshman year in college, that we saw each other again.

I guess you could say we met through our best friends. My best friend Jodi’s husband is James’ best friend so naturally, when I was hanging out with her, I was also hanging out with James. Even back then when we didn’t really know each other, I thought he was cute and I had a small crush but I had heard he liked someone else so I didn’t do anything about it.
Time passed and I graduated high school and start my very first job in July of 2015. Come August when his classes started back up, he started popping up again. It just so happened that I got a job at the ONE gas station on his way to school, the ONE gas station he stopped in at everyday he had class and got a soda and spoke a little to me.

We friend requested each other on Facebook and began talking more, becoming actual friends. Shortly after I took a trip with family to Indiana to visit some people and go to Holiday World (which he made me promise to take him to and I did two years later), he asked me out on our first date and believe it or not this was before he even asked for my number! We have been inseparable ever since.
On September 28th, 2015 we went on our first date. It was a Monday and I had to work from three pm to seven pm and he had class til about nine pm. I remember being so nervous thinking about all the things I had to do when I got off work before he came to get me. I had no idea what to wear because he wouldn’t tell me where we were going or doing.

I remember waiting for him to show up. My mom picking on me for having a date, since this was my first real date. I had never had someone say to me “hey I wanna take you out”. I remember he texted me and said he was at my house but when I looked outside he wasn’t there. He had gone to the wrong house! We both laughed about it. I remember he got out of his truck and opened my door for me when I came out of the house. I had never had someone do that before.

First, he took me to Old Chicago to eat. I had never been so I didn’t know what to expect but we have been several times since. We almost didn’t stay because it had been so late that the dining room itself was closed and only the bar area was open but one of the waitresses said she would serve us so we wouldn’t have to sit in the bar area. He ordered a calzone if I remember correctly and I ordered one of their build your own Mac and cheese bowls which was delicious. We were there for a little over an hour, leaving around 10:30 or so.

He then wanted to take me to a movie but by then, everything had already started. Instead of taking me home and calling it a night, he improvised and we wound up downtown at the RiverWalk. We walked up and down that river probably twice or maybe three times just talking to each other until we finally decided to call it a night. It was so peaceful and pleasant. Talking to him was easy and fun. We often go back to the riverwalk to do just that, talk and walk up and down the sidewalk.

When he took me home it was probably around 1:15 in the morning. He walked me up to the door and said goodbye, giving me a hug and kissing my cheek which I thought was sweet. Even though it wasn’t til about 2 months later that we made things official, we spent every single moment we could together from that night on and a lot of people thought we were already dating. I got truly lucky with him.
